Invasive Inspection.

When is an invasive inspection recommended?

An invasive inspection is undertaken when there are indications of possible termite (white ant) infestations behind the walls. Australian Standards recommend that when high moisture readings are found at the time of the inspection, an invasive is undertaken.

What is an invasive inspection?

An invasive inspection allows us to view the area behind the walls to determine the cause of the high moisture readings. Our inspectors use a borescope, which requires a hole to be made in the wall. The borescope is a specialised optical device which contains its own light source that can illuminate cavities and dark places. Sometimes numerous access holes may be required depending on the severity of the problem. The hole/s should be no more than approximately 10mm in diameter. The repair is not covered by the works unless requested separately and a quote for rectification is given.

Why do an invasive inspection?

An invasive inspection is carried out to ascertain if there is live activity within the wall cavity.

Indications that may result in suspicion:

·      Extensive external infestations where leads are observed entering a property.

·      High moisture readings within walls. White ants require moisture to survive and hence high moisture readings can be an indication of white ant infestations.

·      Deformations in the walls/skirtings/timberwork, which can be an indication of white ant activity.

To investigate and eliminate or confirm white ant activity, an invasive inspection is required. This inspection takes approximately one hour.
